Dryfix Team scoop two Awards this Year with the Property Care Association

At Dryfix all our staff are qualified, experienced and knowledgeable however, some of our team are award winning too!
This year has certainly been a year many would like to forget. Who would have thought that back in March a viral infection discovered in China would have swept the world in a global pandemic with devastating consequences to the economy and our social welfare. Many small businesses have fallen fate to the restrictions of the pandemic and large corporations irrespective of their size and perceived wealth have not been immune. Human social interaction for first time in my life has been restricted with public lockdowns, pubs, shops and business's closed, sports events cancelled and travel restricted with families and loved ones unable to see each other. It's certainly been traumatic. Yet, despite all these challenges there are companies up and down the country which irrespective of the current circumstances have continued to open their doors, trade and treat water.
In normal times the efforts of these companies and their employees is rewarded through award ceremonies, with accolades, merit and recognition of effort publicised. This year however, most if not all of these events have unfortunately been cancelled.
Irrespective of the current circumstances with award ceremonies cancelled I feel it's important that those who have continued to go above and beyond are rewarded. Recently I received a call from the Property Care Association to inform and congratulate us that not one, but two, of our employees have awards this year. Firstly, our most recent apprentice Alan Derbyshire had won the Property Care Association "Technician of the Year Award 2020". Fantastic news. Alan is our most recent employee joining the company in early 2019. In addition to undergoing training in the remedial industry both in house and through the PCA, Alan has also been attending Leeds College of building undertaking a NVQ in plastering. Alan has just finished his first year in the course and is proving to be a very quick learner and very capable plasterer. Winning technician of the year award with the PCA is the cherry on top of a very successful year for Alan.
I mentioned Alan’s achievements to his College tutors at Leeds College of Building and this is what they had to say;
"Alan has a desire to learn and perfect his plastering skills when attending Leeds College of Building, he is an enthusiastic member of the apprentice group and the dedication to his course is second to none as he always gives 100% in all that he does. He has a high desire to gain the knowledge and skills that will set him in good stead for what will undoubtedly be a successful career in the plastering/damp proofing sector. A credit to his firm and Leeds College of Building, and I speak for the whole college when I say how proud we are in the knowledge of him winning the Damp and Timber technician of the year award. Congratulations Alan"

In addition Fraser Rafton, Dryfix Preservation Contracts / H&S Manager has also had an extremely successful year.
Earlier in 2019 Fraser and a few other members of the team visited PCA HQ to undertake their structural water proofing technicians course following which Fraser has only gone on to win "Structural Water Proofing Technician of the Year Award". A fantastic achievement on it' s own however, Fraser has also had other achievements in 2020. For the past 18 months Fraser has been attending York College once a week studying for his NEBOSH 'Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety'. In June despite missing around 4 months of study time due to the pandemic Fraser sat his exams and has passed! Now he officially holds a nationally recognised qualification in Health and Safety.
So, despite a tragic year in some ways, our company and employees have continued to do what they do best, achieve and succeed. There really is a reason why we are Yorkshire’s Leading Damp & Timber Specialists.
