Dryfix Preservation Ltd, a local York-based company, recently scooped another industry award at the Property Care Association 2015 annual conference held at Girton College, University of Cambridge.
Dryfix was established in 2007 at the height of the recession by Russell Rafton, who has a wealth of experience and knowledge in both the construction and restoration industries.
Initially digressing from a City and Guilds NVQ Trade background in brickwork, where his career started, Russell now specialises working in the restoration and preservation industries.
The company provides professional reports and repair solutions for damp, decay, woodworm infestations, condensation, structural and other building defects.
Russell, the company’s director and senior surveyor, studied and trained extensively with both the Property Care Association, the leading industry body for damp and timber decay, and the National Flood School, the UK's leading training provider for fire and flood restoration.
After achieving his qualifications as a specialist damp and timber surveyor and fire and flood restorer, Russell started Dryfix, providing services within both these very specialist areas.
Since 2008, the company has steadily expanded and are now the chosen trusted contractors to many domestic homeowners, potential purchasers, landlords, estate agents and local housing authorities and councils throughout York and North Yorkshire.
Dryfix are full members of the Property Care Association and are TrustMark and CHAS approved.
Dryfix are also members of the Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC), the leading industry body for fire and smoke remediation in the UK.
Russell is also an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and an associate member of British Disaster Management Association (BDMA).
The success of the company Russell believes can be credited to personal training and development of both himself and all the Dryfix workforce, who regularly attend specialist training courses to improve their skills and knowledge.
Russell also identified where the company’s skills as a damp and decay specialists from within the preservation industry were invaluable in water damage restoration, which firmly migrated the company into the damage restoration industry. Each member of the team has their own trade background in either joinery, brickwork or plastering, which Russell believes are the essential foundations of anyone working within either the preservation or restoration industries.
In 2014, Fraser Rafton, Russell's brother, won an award from the Property Care Association for employee of the year for his dedication and outstanding performance during his apprenticeship in joinery at York College.
This year, Dryfix won the industry award for Innovation and Sustainability, which was a credit to both Russell and the Dryfix team and their ability to diversify between two very specific industries.
The judges were looking for “innovative activity”, how it had been used, put into practice and developed, and the positive effect it had on a business’ overall performance. They were also looking for environmental considerations, a key factor in today’s building preservation and protection.
Stephen Hodgson, chief executive of the PCA, said: “Despite coming up against strong competition across the UK, Dryfix Preservation excelled and are worthy winners of this prestigious award.”
Russell and the Dryfix team are extremely proud to see their efforts over the past seven years recognised throughout the industry and hope this award will have another positive influence on the business as they continue to lead the way forward.
Russell Rafton Director of the company said on behalf of the company "8 years on we are one of the most successful remedial repair companies in the North winning industry awards at a National level. I feel very proud of not only the company and what we have achieved but also of myself and every member of our team. I'd like to thank everyone who has been a part of the business both past and present and to everyone who has supported us along the way. Thank you all"
