Company ‘superstar’ honoured at top awards
The ‘superstar’ of an Acomb-based company has been honoured by a national trade body at its annual awards.
Fraser Rafton, a remedial technician and joiner at Dryfix Preservation, is the first recipient of the Employee of the Year title at top industry awards organised by the Property Care Association (PCA).
He was nominated for the accolade by his brother, Russell, who described him as “the company superstar.”
Chief Executive of the PCA, Steve Hodgson, said: “Employee of the Year is a new category in our prestigious awards and the standard of entries was so high we eventually decided to have two runners-up as well as a winner.
“Fraser’s dedication to a job well done and his commitment to furthering his knowledge exemplify the high level of skills and knowledge we support throughout the industry.”
Fraser was presented with a framed certificate, an Apple iPad and a bottle of champagne by Hudson Lambert of Safeguard Europe, who sponsored the award, at a special ceremony held at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
He has worked at Dryfix Preservation – which provides professional reports and repair solutions for damp, woodworm, infestations, wet rot, dry rot, condensation and building defects - for five years and was selected as the winner after impressing judges with the level of training he had undertaken in order to do a ‘perfect’ job every time.
Fraser said: “I’m absolutely honoured to have been selected as Employee of the Year at the PCA Awards.
“When they were reading out the runners-up I thought there was no way I was going to get anything and then when they said I’d won I could hardly believe it.
“I am overjoyed, I’ve never won anything this important before and I’m really proud for myself and for the company.
“Over the past couple of years I’ve been back to college to train as a joiner as we needed someone within the firm who could take on that kind of work.
“I like every job to be perfect – to be done right – and I pay a lot of attention to detail.
“I didn’t expect to be nominated by Russell, I was really pleased with the things he put in the entry – you don’t always expect your brother to say nice things about you.”

Noted for its training and technical expertise, the PCA incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp-proofing Association (BWPDA), which has been in formation for 80 years.
The trade body represents the UK’s structural repair sector, as well as the structural waterproofing, wood preservation, damp-proofing, flood remediation and invasive weed control industries.
