Decay and infestation in severe cases can impair the integrity of even the largest structural timbers. Replacement of structural timbers however, is not always possible this is particularly the case for buildings of special architectural importance (listed buildings). In these situations, a repair maybe favoured over replacement to retain as much of the original structure and heritage as possible.
In these circumstances, timber resin repairs provide an ideal, low impact and cost effective solution, which negates the need for full replacement. With the use of high tensile reinforcing bars and epoxy resins, new timber can be spliced into the existing timber, once the infected section has been removed.
Timber resin repairs have fast become the modern alternative to unsightly traditional repairs which used bolts and reinforcing steel plates.
Resin repairs can be used on large structural timbers affected by severe woodworm attack, wet rot or dry rot infections and are applicable to almost any timbers used in construction such as; beams; bresummer; floor joists; purlins and trusses. Once repaired the mechanical strength of the timber is restored and the resin provides additional benefits as it is resistant to chemical, decay and inspect infestation.
